Neutrinos

Dr. Yamaç Pehlivan Deliorman’s talk on Neutrinos was held on Saturday, February 2nd. Her talk attracted much attention and brought together a unique audience of all ages, a majority of whom being young islanders. The room was packed in a way if one were to drop a needle it would not fall on the ground (as we say in Turkish). After the presentation, an informal QA session was held while the attendees enjoyed Turkish tea and cookies prepared by the members of our non profit. The scientific chat took place after the talk was very enlightening and everyone seemed to have a great time.

İdil Özsöyler, a member of the Board of Directors, gave an overview of the activities of the Cesaret Derneği in her opening statement. “We wish to increase the scientific curiosity of the youth who live on the Heybeli Island with activities such as this talk, which we hope will be the first in series of scientific talks offered monthly.”

Dr. Yamaç Pehlivan Deliorman gave examples of Neutrino experiments worldwide which made the presentation very informative and easy to follow.

There were no seats available even in the hallway.

The members of our young Basketball team are with their coach Mr. Ahmet Reis after attending the talk.

Dr. Yamaç Pehlivan Deliorman offered a new definition of courage as her closing statement: “Courage is to imagine that you can look at the universe from another window, and to have the passion to live in the South Pole for years to realize your dream.” We are thankful to her for this great definition of courage which is a term we value a lot. (Note: “Cesaret” means courage in Turkish.)
We are thankful to those who contributed to this event’s success.
